The Academy Select program runs in parallel to the Spring Recreational season and the purpose is to group together the players that have a more sound understanding of the game and higher coach ability so they can advance faster towards understanding the potential of this wonderful game.
Players will still be on a recreational team and attend regular recreational practices (1 day per week) and games (Fri or Sat). However, in addition they will participate 1 night per week in a 1.5 hour training session at Putnam Park with the Palm Harbor Nighthawks Club Trainers and Coaches
The format for these training sessions will be to work on core skills in the beginning of the session and end with small sided scrimmages. As these sessions continue we will break the kids up into teams which they will stay with for their scrimmages and eventually play with in an Academy Select Tournament.
We are starting the Select program on March 11th from 6:00-7:30 at Putnam Park (Practice will be each week on Thursday during this same time slot). This will be near when the Spring recreational program starts and it will then continue during the recreational season and cap off with the Academy Select Tournament.
Common Questions:
1) Is there a fee? There will be a nominal fee to cover referee fees and trophies for the tournament at the end of the season. The expected fee based on our projected number of players will be $20 or less for the entire program (that is an exceptional value). This fee will be required by the second week of the program and picked up at the practice. A separate registration form will be emailed to participating parents and is required for this program and must be turned with the fee.
2) Will the fee be weekly or just one time? Just one time. The intention is to run in parallel to the regular recreational season and it is a requirement to be part of the Rec program.
3) What is the advantage of the Academy Select? This program will group the children together that have some more advanced understanding (or coach ability) of the game and allow them to grow more quickly with the sport.
4) Do I still join the Rec program? Yes, this program runs in parallel to the recreational program and is not a replacement.
