Palm Harbor U10 girls win their Valentine (Coach Gerald Czaja) a 1st place trophy in the Plant City Tournament
Sunday, February 14th 2010

After a win in their first game Saturday against Wesley Chapel (4:3), the Nighthawks finished their second game against an aggressive Plant City team with a tie (2:2).  For the Sunday morning game, the players took the pitch under a brisk temperature in the 30’s.   This was sure to be a good game as the girls played against their rival (soon to be merged teammate) Panella East Lake.  Result was a win (6:4) advancing Palm Harbor to the finals.

For the afternoon finals Palm Harbor was again slated to play the Panella East Lake team.  At half time Palm Harbor was down (0:2), but the girls came back during the second half to tie up the score (2:2).  Both teams played very strong, however with just seconds left before the whistle blew, Alivia Gonzalaz kicked an amazing shot from outside the box for a game winning goal. The girls took first place with a 3:2 win.

Congratulations to Coach Gerald with his first tournament championship and to his players (Daniella Altamura, Taylor Baksay, Kaylyn Burroughs, Mackenzie Cumings, Avery Enlow, Jillian Fragale, Isabel Fraley, Oriana Garcia and Alivia Gonzalaz).

The Palm Harbor U9 Girls take the “heart” at their coach’s wedding

Wedding Crashers

Not bronze, silver or gold; not the cup or a trophy; the Palm Harbor U9 Girls took the “Heart” at the wedding of their coach, Gerald Czaja. Some say they stole it, but we have confirmed that while it was no easy feat, it was fairly won. Witnesses say that the players seemed to have trained for the event and were very well prepared even though it was held on the final day of their tryouts.

Nighthawks U9 Girls
Champs at Pinellas Park Spooktacular

Our Nighthawks Academy program is off to a very strong start. All teams are developing and learning a love for the game. Coaches Gerald Czaja and Keith Barbaccia have enjoyed working with the U9 and U10 Girls Academy program and players as we have prepared for the 2008-2009 season. In final preparation, the players participated in the 2008 Suncoast Halloween Spooktacular at Pinellas Park 25 and 26 Oct 2008. Both groups had a great showing.

  • The U9 Girls demonstrated their hard work and practice by taking the championship through a great deal of teamwork and individual effort. They secured the first place position with 20 goals for and only 4 goals against.

  • Although they did not advance to the finals, the U10 Girls won their first two games and held the Championship "to be" team to just 3 goals.

We are extremely proud of the progress these players have made during the preseason and hope to see continued developmental success within each player and group over the course of the regular season.
